About Us

The aim of the society is to draw together all those interested in writing in all its various forms, promote and encourage writers’ knowledge of the art of writing and literature and, through workshops and competitions, help aspiring writers. New writers are welcome.

Our Ethos:
The Society shall be non-sectarian, non-party-political and gender inclusive. All members will have the same rights.

We welcome all writers of any form to join us. If you would like to come along to one of our meetings and experience our community you can do so before becoming an ongoing member.

ABOUT OUR MEETINGS

When: Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month from 9.30am - 12.30pm
Where: Launceston Library Meeting Room, 2nd Floor. Launceston Library.
What to Bring: Bring something to write on and, if you like, a short piece of writing, or except of your writing to share.

*Sharing your work is not compusory. It’s ok to come and listen, and share when you are ready.

GENERAL MEETING FORMAT

  1. Group members who have written to the monthly theme set at the last meeting read their work to the group. Group members are encouraged to comment positively on each others compostiions. It is not compulsory to share or comment.

  2. The group enjoy morning tea from the communal tea and coffee making facilities. One of the group members provides a sweet treat for everyone to share each month by previous arrangement

  3. A prearranged guest writer may present some of their oroginal work and may discuss their process or run a short writing workshop. After the workshop group members may read any resultant work, if they choose.

  4. To conclude the meeting a theme is set for the following months meeting. Home work includes writing to this theme to share at the next meeting, amd is non compulsory.
